This is a stack overflow in MonoDevelop.Ide.TypeSystem.TypeSystemService.ProjectContentWrapper.HasCyclicRefs. It appears to be caused by having several projects with the same name. Some some parts of MonoDevelop assume that project names are unique within a solution.

We might eb able to prevent the stack overflow in the TypeSystemService but I have no idea where else it might break. This appears to be a fundamental limitation in MD's project system, as evidenced by Solution.FindProjectByName ().

VS handles this correctly, and even disambiguates project references, displaying them as e.g. "Alchemy (src\Alchemy)"
Comment 4 Mike Krüger 2013-02-06 01:13:54 UTC
I prevented the overflow, but completion is broken because of the reference issue.
Comment 5 Marius Ungureanu 2017-09-26 11:44:28 UTC
Just tested this now. Roslyn and the project model properly support projects with the same name.
