Manually adding XamMac.dll to a project* shows "provided by MonoDevelop" which was true for MonoMac.dll but is not for XamMac.dll.

* for some reason it seems the PopupBindings sample converted itself to XamMac project but kept it's reference to MonoMac.dll.
Comment 1 Aaron Bockover [MSFT] 2012-12-10 14:44:35 UTC
The "provided by MonoDevelop" label is misleading in MonoDevelop itself. Essentially it means, "this reference is only available magically in MonoDevelop" or in other words, "this is not in the GAC but MonoDevelop will treat it like it is".

The addin registers the reference that points to the assembly in the framework:

<Extension path="/MonoDevelop/Core/SupportPackages">
  <Package name="xammac" version="0.0.0.0" targetFramework="4.0">
    <Assembly file="/Library/Frameworks/Xamarin.Mac.framework/Versions/Current/usr/lib/mono/XamMac.dll" />
  </Package>
</Extension>

As for the conversion issue, can you test the PopupBindings project again? This should have been fixed for #8736 and is working for me. Going to close this as invalid.
