We have a Nexus 7, which only has a front facing camera.

If you check MediaPicker.IsCameraAvailable, it returns false on this device.

If you try to call TakePhotoAsync() anyway, it throws an exception.

I can make a repro if needed, let me know.

Fixed, available in the next release.
