Case #17205


When trying to create an AdHoc distribution, MonoDevelop always creates a debug version instead of an adHoc version.

When project options set to AdHoc and perform a rebuild, MonoDevelop ignores the setting and creates a Debug version, ie,
it puts the archive in the Debug folder instead of the AdHoc folder. After rebuilding MonoDevelop resets the project setting to Debug.


The apple dev and distribution files are all OK. The iPhone version of app behaves normally and we can distribute it to testers successfully.

I can't reproduce this from the description. Do you have repro steps?

Hi,

I can reproduce the problem:

1. Create new iPad project 
2. Set up project options for AdHoc distribution
3. Rebuild project
4. Compilation only produces a Debug configured archive instead of AdHoc
5. Go back to project options 
   - the project now shows a Debug configuration instead of AdHoc - meaning the project setting ALWAYS shows and performs a compile using a Debug configuration.

Bottom Line:

It's not possible to create an AdHoc distribution. I always get a large Debug compiled file. Nothing gets put in the AdHoc directory.

My dev environment is as listed in Case #17205

Hi Aubrey,

Did you select "Ad-Hoc|iPhone" from the drop-down menu in MonoDevelop's main toolbar?

The Project Options dialog is only used for setting up the build options for each build configuration, it is not used to tell MonoDevelop which build configuration to use when building.

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks! My error was selecting Distribution|iPhone from the MonoDevelop drop down.  What is the difference between Ad-Hoc|iPhone and Distribution|iPhone settings?

Are you sure it says "Distribution|iPhone"? There's no such configuration that we set up for your project by default that is called "Distribution".

We only setup:

Debug|iPhoneSimulator
Release|iPhoneSimulator
Debug|iPhone
Release|iPhone
Ad-Hoc|iPhone
AppStore|iPhone

Perhaps you meant Release|iPhone?

Ad-Hoc and AppStore are based on the Release configuration, except that they both default to your Distribution code-signing key (instead of Developer code-sign key). Ad-Hoc also enables the IPA build step.
