This is not a bug - it's a change request.
I hope I'm using the right vehicle for that.
I attempted to use Xamarin.Mobile APIs to get a stream of live images from the camera but I find that the MediaPicker class only support offline video.
I would have liked it to expose either an event based API (for each frame) or a sampling API (get the currently displayed imaged).
I'd recommend adding your suggestion to our uservoice, so other users can show their support as well: https://xamarin.uservoice.com/forums/150476-xamarin-mobile-api
Thanks for this feature request. I am not sure of how this would be implemented in a cross-platform manner with such a simple API - especially as this may require some platform-specific UI.
However, feel free to open an issue on the Media plugin:
I would also recommend asking on the forums, as there may be community members who may have suggestions:
The Mobile API is being deprecated in favor of various plugins (which have the equivalent/same API):
- Contacts: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Xam.Plugin.Contacts
- Geolocator: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Xam.Plugin.Geolocator
- Media: https://www.nuget.org/packages/Xam.Plugin.Media
This plugin model has several advantages:
- Each plugin is independent, and can be updated as such
- It is no longer an all-or-nothing package
- Plugins can be mixed/replaced with other plugins that offer similar features
Thanks for using the Mobile API, and we hope that the new plugin model will enable you to produce even better mobile apps.
