Description Bob 2012-08-28 16:23:35 UTC
First of all, the following method does NOT work for inputting Unicode characters into MonoDevelop (text editor, preferences text boxes or where ever):

NOTE: in order for the below method to work, the registry string value
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Input/EnableHexNumpad must be set to "1".

Press and hold down the Alt key.
Press the + (plus) key on the numeric keypad.
Type the hexidecimal unicode value.
Release the Alt key.

Try for example the Unicode character with hex value 01C0. On most fonts it should look like the vertical line character "|" that's found on most keyboard layouts (but it's not the same thing).

Second of all, I used Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 to map the key combination Ctrl + Alt + | to the character U+01C0, and MonoDevelop doesn't accept the input in that way either. It simply doesn't type anything. Using this key combination works in every other program I've tried it at.

I'm on Mac OSX system, and meet the same problem.

Cannot input unicode character(Chinese) in TextEditor.

IME support on MacOS is bug 826.
