Test project

After update to 15.5 in an old project images of ImageViews have stopped showing in designer. And I can't select image for ImageView in designer (there is no assets in dropdown list and window "Add existing item..." appears).
This behaviour can be reproduced in a sample new project.
1) Add new Image set in Assets, select some image for 1x size.
2) Add ImageView to storyboard
3) Try to select image for added ImageView.

WTF? It became impossible to work with Xamarin after with update.

Please fix this bug as soon as possible. It's blocking error.
Comment 2 Michael Shapiro 2017-12-12 15:47:56 UTC
I can confirm the same behavior here: in the existing project open storyboard, click on any ImageView, go to Properties, find Image drop down box, click on it...
Expected behavior - a drop down list of images from the Asses Catalog shows.
Actual behavior - a Windows Explorer window opens up and basically offers you to search for a file... wtf?

Still no feedback from Xamarin Team. It's terrible.

Hi - we're actively looking into this. Sorry for the lack of communication.

We'll need to re-test when this lands: https://github.com/xamarin/XamarinVS/pull/8598

Tested today on VS2017 15.6 Preview 2 (using Xamarin.iOS 11.8.0.0), and I'm no longer able to reproduce this issue.
