RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 59161

Description Bret Johnson [MSFT] 2017-08-25 20:45:43 UTC
Create a Forms project and launch the previewer. Edit the XAML to be invalid, say with an invalid element. Click on the error icon in the previewer.

Result: The error popup window isn't resizable. There's no way to see the full error text nor scroll. See attached screenshot.

Expected: It should be resizable. Let's also consider switching it to a dialog instead of popup, same as Stephen is doing today for the UI linting error/warning popups, especially if Stephen ends up staying with that UI (it's an experiment to start with). The current issues with Mac popups are both performance (noticeably slow) and inability to make them resizable. And I assume Mac and Windows should be consistent here.

FWIW, in general I think we can do 2 main things to improve customer perception of Forms Previewer quality:
1. Show error messages less often (by fixing stuff)
2. When we do show errors (which we will), ensure that the error message display itself is good, not feeling buggy.

Thanks so much for taking the time to submit this report! I can confirm using the latest Visual Studio 2017 Preview version 15.4

I am able to reproduce this issue. Marking this report as CONFIRMED.

Update: I've seen scrollbars show up on this dialog, then if I bring it up again, the scrollbars are gone. It seems like there's supposed to be scrollbars here, there's just some issue that causes them to disappear.

From a UI/UX perspective we generally avoid modal dialogs for things like this. We would need to talk to Design about this.

We can probably make this resizable and fix the scrollbar issue though.
