RESOLVED NOT_ON_ROADMAP

Description mikejoebro 2017-08-11 22:14:54 UTC
I read on the Mono website that earlier versions of the runtime supported SPARC64. I'm currently developing a chip using the SPARC64 ISA, and was interested in learning about adding Mono support for it?

If there are parts of the mono runtime's codebase I need to become familiar with, any direction/guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you!

The sparc support has bitrotten, and will probably be removed in the future, since sparc is pretty much dead.

Well, it clearly isn't "dead" if I'm developing a chip using it. :)

Should I just be looking into .NET Core as a replacement for Mono regardless?

Hello,

We have no plan to officially support SPARC64 any time soon.

If you want to check what's working, and what would need to be fixed, I would encourage you to compile and run the mini regression tests (make -C mono/mini -k check). Those tests would be the bare minimum to ensure that the JIT can run on this platform.

Another solution would be to use the interpreter, but it is still a work in progress, so you might have to fix it to run on this platform.

If you run into any issue, please feel free to open a bug, and we will make sure to give you enough information for you to figure it out.

Thank you!
