RESOLVED NORESPONSE

Description Edward Brey 2017-07-08 15:41:36 UTC
When a XAML component has a base class from the local project, the .xaml file opens as an XML file, not a XAML file. The navigation toolbars at the top of the editor window are missing and IntelliSense is gone (just the minimal XML IntelliSense appears).

Repro:

1. Create a new C# Xamarain.Forms project using PCL.
2. Create this class: public class MyContentPage : ContentPage {}
3. Modify a .xaml file, replacing "<ContentPage" with "<local:MyContentPage". Replace the closing tag to match. Include xmlns:local="clr-namespace:MyNamespace".
4. Change the class in the .xaml.cs file to also derive from MyContentPage.
5. Close and re-open Visual Studio.

Expected: Normal XAML editing.
Actual: No XAML editing.

What version of Visual Studio are you experiencing this one? I tested this on VS2017 with Xamarin 4.5.0.486 and could not reproduce this issue.

Comment 3 Edward Brey 2017-08-01 20:27:39 UTC
I'm also using Xamarin 4.5.0.486. I'm using VS 15.2.26430.16. Not sure what's different to keep it from reproducing on your side.
Comment 4 Prashant [MSFT] 2017-08-03 08:21:24 UTC
I attempted to reproduce this issue based on the bug description with the latest Visual Studio 2017 Preview version 15.3 and the VS2015 running Xamarin 4.5.0.489, and I was unable to hit the problem. If this issue is still occurring for you, please reopen this report and attach a reproduction, ideally starting with a new template project and then adding just the code necessary to demonstrate the issue.
