messages or log files if you are hitting an issue that looks similar to
this resolved bug and you do not yet see a matching new report.
When I was fixing up the iphone/ipad templates for 2.8 or 3.0, I remember making a mental note of this but I really should have opened a bug report about it...
that said, one of our users just sent us an email pointing this out and we really should revamp the templates.
If you open xcode and start a new project and pick the master-detail
template and then run the thing, you get a functional app where you can add
items to the master view and then as you select items the detail view

If you run monodevelop and pick master-detail for iPad you get an app that
does absolutely nothing:

The master controller and detail controller aren't wired up at all. Even if
you add additional cells to the table in the master view, selecting
different cells won't do anything in the detail view. Its not completely
useless in that there is at least a datasource with some stubbed out
methods including RowSelected. But the user has to figure out how to get
the RootViewController and DetailViewController communicating (it wasn't
too hard - I used the xcode template as a reference).
If you try the master-detail storyboard template its even worse. There is
no datasource - there's barely any code at all in the RootViewController. I
haven't figure out how I am supposed to wire things up with this guy (other
than copying and pasting code enmass from the other template).
