Description Sipke Schoorstra 2017-03-06 17:44:10 UTC
# Steps to reproduce
1. Create a new Single View App (iPhone)
2. Connect to Xamarin Mac Agent from the toolbar.

# Expected behavior
Not getting an error when connecting to my mac so I can open the Storyboard designer.

# Actual behavior
Although VS successfully starts and connects to the Build agent ("Agent Build 4.1.1.3 is running"), it fails to start and connect to the Designer agent ("An error occured starting the Designer 4.1.1.3 agent")

I updated the title of the bug by removing "IDB 4.1.1.3", as that agent does start. It's just the Designer agent that won;t start. I'm currently in the process of reinstalling my entire macbook (as the error indicates that it originates on the host).

In short, if you have updated your Mac to Xcode 8 or higher, you will need to update to a newer version of Xamarin or downgrade back to an older version of Xcode.

## Otherwise, please provide the "Test environment (full version information)"

If you have _not_ updated to Xcode 8 or higher, please attach back the detailed version information from the Mac, including the installed Xcode version, the Mac OS version, and the Xamarin.iOS version. One way to get all of that information at once is via "Xamarin Studio > About Xamarin Studio > Show Details > Copy Information".

You can also confirm your Xamarin version as shown in "Help > About Microsoft Visual Studio" is 4.1.1.3 and provide your Visual Studio and Windows OS version info.

You can set the bug status to "REOPENED". Thanks in advance!

## Additional details

This error suggests a mismatch in the installed version of Xamarin compared to the installed version of Xcode. For example, I was able to replicate the error by installing:

- Xcode 8.2.1 (released by Apple on December 19, 2016)
- XamarinVS 4.1.2.18 + Xamarin.iOS 9.8.2.22 (released by Xamarin on August 1, 2016)

The Xamarin compatibility release for Xcode 8.2.0 was released on December 14, 2016 [1], and includes:

- Xamarin.VS 4.2.1.73
- Xamarin.iOS 10.3.0.0

That was it. Thanks!
