your current version information, steps to reproduce, and relevant error
messages or log files if you are hitting an issue that looks similar to
this resolved bug and you do not yet see a matching new report.
MonoDevelop logs do not contain Version information.
The only way to figure out the MD version is by the timestamp/folder name. I imagine we can insert at least part of the version info into the log right at the beginning.
While you are often getting the logs right after an issue to report it (and therefore know which version you were using), it seems to me that having version info in the log can only be a good thing and lead to better reporting.
This is a good point, it would certainly make it easier to collect logs and version info from users. The tricky part will be to figure out how much version info we can include reliably without slowing MD startup - some of the version info collection is relatively expensive, and much is collected in addins that are loaded long after the logging system is initialized.
As soon as we figure that information out, we can start including it in feedback posts too.
