I'm writing a Mono For Android service, and I'm having difficulty in getting the Visual Studio 2010 debugger to break at a break point.
Right now, the only way I know of to get an activity to run with an attached debugger is to right click on the project in the solution explorer, select Debug and start a new instance.
However, in this case, another android app starts the service in question, and I"m not sure if that has something to do with the issue I'm having. I start a new instance of the service in the debugger, then start the application (which starts the service if it's not already running). The debugger still shows as running, but even though the code on the break point gets run, the program never breaks.
Is there a different or better procedure to use to help ensure that the debugger gets attached correctly?
Is there a way to attach the debugger to a process that has already started in the droid?
Using Visual Studio 2010
Mono for Droid version 4.06
Target is Android 2.2
There is no way to attach the debugger to a running process. The process must be started up in a special "debug" mode for it to work.
Thus, you need the process that you want to debug be the startup project of your solution, and then you can simply hit F5 for it deploy and start in debug mode.
