The Mono SDK provides Universal binaries for OS X for i386 and x86_64, all tools and libraries are compiled both both architecures except the following ones (there might be others):
In our application we dropped support for i386 in OS X a while back so all of our depdencies are built for x86_64. We have been building mono ourself for x86_64 and last we tried to transition to the installed SDK for our development environment instead of building it our self. The issue we have now is that our application using the official mono SDK is not working anymore since DLLimport'ed libraries are found but don't match the executing architecure, which is i386 because of the mono binary.
Use /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Commands/mono32 and /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Commands/mono64 to control bitness or pass the --arch option to mono directly.
