It'd be nice to have a popup appear that says "Couldn't connect to Mac because it contains a different version of Xamarin". To determine why my Visual Studio Mac Connection wasn't working, I had to comb through the Mac Connection log file.
The failure was because I had the Alpha-channel version of Xamarin installed in Visual Studio, and the Beta-channel version of Xamarin installed on my Mac. When this is the case, the Visual Studio Mac Connection fails, and there is no failure message provided to the user on the Mac Connection GUI in Visual Studio.
We're already showing messages in the status bar and output window which is the most common idiom in VS. We should avoid showing popups, dialogs, etc as much as possible.
