Create a new iOS project and set the deployment target to 9.3
On deployment to device observe the following error message.
MTOUCH: Error MT0074: Xamarin.iOS 9.8.0 does not support a deployment target of 9.3 (the maximum is 9.2). Please select an older deployment target in your project's Info.plist or upgrade to a newer version of Xamarin.iOS. (MT0074)
That sounds like your XS preferences are not set to use Xcode 7.3, which includes the iOS 9.3 SDK.
Please include the full build logs and all version* informations.
* The easiest way to get exact version information is to use the "Xamarin Studio" menu, "About Xamarin Studio" item, "Show Details" button and copy/paste the version informations (you can use the "Copy Information" button).
Actually it's different issue - but you still have to provide the above data for any bug report (we should not have to guess your environment).
The alpha channel has not yet been refreshed with Xcode 7.3 / iOS 9.3 support. That will happen when QA has the time to verify an newer 9.8.x build.
Right now you can either:
1. Continue using XI 9.6 with Xcode 7.3 (stable); or
2. Use the XI 9.8 (alpha) with Xcode 7.2;
