The iPad Retina Simulator does not show the 2x version of images when the image is set in Interface Builder from MonoDevelop using MonoTouch.
I've found that my images appear @2x when I do UIImage.FromFile but NOT when set from IB for iPad Retina via MD & MT.
Please see the attached sample project, if you look at the images and then run the iPad retina simulator, you'll see what I mean.
Duplicating the exact behaviour in a pure XCode project and the simulator picks up the 2x variant correctly.

Rolf: any chance you could look into this? I tried digging into this when the bug was first reported but could not find anything that MonoDevelop was doing wrong (hence why I had reassigned to MonoTouch).
This smells like a simulator bug.
It works on device, and it works if I delete the normal icon, so the simulator can definitively find the @2x image if it wants to.
