Description blitzillu 2016-02-09 12:08:11 UTC
Local machine:

Windows 10 Pro
Visual Studio Professional 2015: Version 14.0.24720.00 Update 1
Xamarin: 4.0.1.96
Xamarin.iOS: 9.4.1.24

Build host:

OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5
Xamarin Studio 5.10.2 (build 56)
Xamarin.iOS: 9.4.1.25

I want to use asset catalogs for the launch image and the app icon (for iOS 7 support). Here I wasn't able to get this running (more info can be found under https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/60607/asset-catalog-in-visual-studio-has-some-serious-flaws#latest).

Now I deleted all unecessary files from my project and here the app icon works, but the launch image still doesn't work. Don't know why deleting other files seems to fix the app icon asset catalog ...

How do you get the asset catalog to do what it is supposed to do? Asset catalogs are not working in the Visual Studio Xamarin plugin.

If you are wondering why I don't provide an attachment its because I can't add a private one.

I still can't make a private comment/attachment.

Now I sent the project as ZIP to the mail address you mentioned.

In the project the asset catalogs for app icons and launch images are set, but e.g. the launch image isn't shown. You can try and see if you get this working.

Can you easily switch between alpha channel and stable channel?

Thank you! I will keep an eye out for your email. Changing channels is fairly easy--here is a guide about it: https://developer.xamarin.com/recipes/cross-platform/ide/change_updates_channel/

I'll follow up with you via email shortly. Thanks again!

Thanks Ashley for getting into this. Now I updated to the latest version of Xamarin (Xamarin 4.0.1.147 and Xamarin.iOS 9.4.2.28).

On an iPhone 4/iPad Air with iOS 7.1.2 the app icon and the splash screen are working.
On an iPhone 4S with iOS 8.4 the app icon is working, but not the splash screen.
On an iPhone 5S with iOS 9.0.2 the app icon is working, but not the splash screen.
On the simulator (iPhone 4S 8.4/9.2) the app icon is working, but not the splash screen.

I have used the same project (AppIcon) with a clean build and uninstalling the same app on the device before. Do I have an error in the asset catalog?

Can you obtain the same results like me?

Marking resolved--customer reports latest alpha updates helped. Non-public report: https://kb.xamarin.com/agent/case/304810
