RESOLVED NOT_ON_ROADMAP

Description John Hair 2012-03-03 05:34:11 UTC
Subject says it all really, would be very useful for debugging if you could enable the background/foreground console colour options in Monotouch and display them accordingly in the Application Output window.

Thanks
John

Unfortunately this is harder than it sounds. Supporting colours in the output window would require implementing a basic terminal emulator in order to convince the app to output the colour control sequences, then connecting all the I/O streams properly to the app.

Fair enough, in my mind its much simpler than that as you already have the messaging I/O in place, it would just need extensions to support background / foreground. Event simpler you could encode the log line itself with an XML string that contained all the extra fields required, no changes to the IO stream at all.
Then your output window pulls out the fields from xml string and paints in the required colour. As the saying goes in the UK: 'Simples'.

We'd still have the problem of negotiation, so MD can know that the app is emitting the control sequences and vice versa. You can't trust those meerkats, it's not that simple ;-)

=> MonoDevelop (at least until the required support is implemented there).
