Description psk 2016-01-02 15:37:01 UTC
while compiling >>mcs tlstest.cs /r:System.dll /r:Mono.Security.dll
from http://www.mono-project.com/docs/getting-started/mono-basics/ (see link under "HTTPS connections") I got following error messages:

tlstest.cs(169,23): warning CS0618: `System.Net.ServicePointManager.CertificatePolicy' is obsolete: `Use ServerCertificateValidationCallback instead'
tlstest.cs(172,23): error CS0117: `System.Net.ServicePointManager' does not contain a definition for `ClientCipherSuitesCallback'
/usr/lib/mono/4.5/System.dll (Location of the symbol related to previous error)
tlstest.cs(210,26): warning CS0618: `System.Net.Dns.Resolve(string)' is obsolete: `Use GetHostEntry instead'

I'm using Lubuntu 14.04. and mono version:
>>mono --version
Mono JIT compiler version 3.2.8 (Debian 3.2.8+dfsg-4ubuntu1.1)
Copyright (C) 2002-2014 Novell, Inc, Xamarin Inc and Contributors. www.mono-project.com
	TLS: __thread
	SIGSEGV: altstack
	Notifications: epoll
	Architecture: amd64
	Disabled: none
	Misc: softdebug
	LLVM: supported, not enabled.
	GC: sgen

what ist going wrong?

p.s.
ok, installation was not yet finished, because of unsolved dependencies.

Now I have only three warnings:
"tlstest.cs(170,23): warning CS0618: `System.Net.ServicePointManager.CertificatePolicy' is obsolete: `Use ServerCertificateValidationCallback instead'
tlstest.cs(211,26): warning CS0618: `System.Net.Dns.Resolve(string)' is obsolete: `Use GetHostEntry instead'
tlstest.cs(177,11): warning CS0219: The variable `prefix' is assigned but its value is never used
Compilation succeeded - 3 warning(s)"
Comment 2 Jim Henderson 2016-11-07 14:49:38 UTC
I got two warnings with Lubuntu 16.04.1, namely
tlstest.cs(169,23): warning CS0618:

`System.Net.ServicePointManager.CertificatePolicy' is obsolete: `Use ServerCertificateValidationCallback instead'
tlstest.cs(199,26): warning CS0618: `System.Net.Dns.Resolve(string)' is obsolete: `Use GetHostEntry instead'
Compilation succeeded - 2 warning(s)

Admittedly these are only warnings, and my tlstest.exe ran without any error messages, but it would be nice if someone had a few minutes to update the example at
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mono/mono/master/mcs/class/Mono.Security/Test/tools/tlstest/tlstest.cs
Comment 3 Martin Baulig 2018-03-15 19:14:37 UTC
The entire tool is obsolete and will eventually be removed.
