I suspect this is a duplicate of Bug 36407.

Importantly, the screenshot shows that the "bad" file uses the Windows path separator, so a small correction to comment 0:

> Creates file named:
"PluginsHelp\SettingsReadme.txt"

And that bad file name matches the symptom of Bug 36407.
Comment 2 Sebastien Pouliot 2015-12-03 16:18:57 UTC
This looks like a path* was not transformed into the native OS path. I suspect that will only happens in, or from, XVS (but maybe the fix needs to be in msbuild**).

* paths in .csproj files are generally using the windows convention

We'll need more info - like what is the build action on this file in the project? Does it have a LogicalName property?

Build Logs, Build Logs, Build Logs!
Comment 4 Brendan Zagaeski (Xamarin Team, assistant) 2015-12-03 16:36:53 UTC
I will set this bug to NEEDINFO while it is awaiting the diagnostic build output (to help decide whether it is indeed a duplicate of Bug 36407).

Thanks!

Hi,
As we've added several improvements to our build system and deploying/debugging mechanism since the bug was reported, I'm resolving it tentatively as Fixed.
That said, if you're still facing this issue with current bits, please feel free to reopen the bug.
Thanks
