I had an issue with the iOS Mac Agent where on my Mac I had latest Alpha version installed and a previous version installed on my Windows machine which runs VS2015.
The Windows machine connected just fine to the Agent host and was showing a green icon usually indicating everything was fine. However, it could not detect any iOS Simulators nor devices.
Updating to the latest Alpha on the Windows machine fixed the problem. However, I would expect it to at least warn me that the versions do not match. Or well it does, but the warning is hidden away inside the Output window:
There is a mismatch between the installed Xamarin.iOS (version 18.104.22.168) on the Mac Tomaszs-Mac-mini.local (10.116.122.195) and the local Xamarin.iOS 22.214.171.124. While this is not necessary an issue, it might cause unexpected behaviors. When applying updates, make sure to keep both the Mac and Windows in sync.
Xamarin 126.96.36.1995 (9ac5fb8)
Xamarin.iOS 188.8.131.52 (faa88fc)
Xamarin.iOS 184.108.40.206 (b5386c2)
Can you maybe show the limited support icon when there is a version mismatch? Or something to visually indicate that there might be a problem?
Our issue with that is that, really, that should almost never be a problem. We don't want to block you from working unless we absolutely need to and the yellow limited compatibility icon is a blocker. We used to have a warning in that case but it was distracting. I'll bring it up internally though, in case we can do something better.
