Rotating the player using the rotation icon will bring the UI past spinning activity icon. This has been tested on Nexus 5 KitKat and Lollipop APIs. Player is version 0.6.1; clean install.

As a result of this issue Xamarin studio is unable to push a build to XAP, rendering it unusable.

Can you expand on what you mean by this?
Please launch the VirtualBox UI, then launch a Device from Device Manager and watch what the VirtualBox UI does - looking for it changing it state to 'Starting' and then 'Running'.
Also, please try launching a KitKat Device directly from the the VirtualBox UI. It'll take a while, but it'll eventually time out and fall to software rendering and should boot.
Mark, the issue I was getting I am now, no longer experiencing. What was happening was the screen would display the endless loading icon and Android would appear hung until I then clicked on the circle with arrow icon on the side (the icon to rotate the device in the emulator). So, now I have a no-repro on this end as well.
Below I have attached a photo of Virtual Box hanging on kitkat.

Are the logs that you attached on the forum post from when this was a current issue? Is XAP working for you at the moment, or is this issue no longer blocking you?
I can confirm at this point that I can no longer repro the issue by loading XAP on its own. I can't confirm that the issue is gone by loading from my own project as I can't build due to a different blocking issue. Maybe mark as no-repro and I will resubmit if I can get it to happen again? Thanks.
ok, if this problem does come back - please do repoen this.
