Description Alan McGovern 2015-09-25 09:55:51 UTC
1) Create a *file*, not directory, in this location: /Users/alan/Library/Logs/Xamarin-99.0

2) Try to connect to the mac from VS.

Result: It fails at the login screen with no visible information as to what went wrong.

Stepping through with a debugger uncovered this gem:

 {"[ERROR] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: System.IO.IOException: Cannot create /Users/alan/Library/Logs/Xamarin-99.0 because a file with the same name already exists.\n   at System.IO.Directory.CreateDirectory (System.String path) in <filename unknown>:line 0\n   at Xamarin.Messaging.Client.TracingConfiguration.SetupTracingForConsoleApp (System.String name, System.String version, System.String[] args, Boolean deleteOldLogFiles) in <filename unknown>:line 0\n   at Xamarin.Messaging.Broker.Program.Main (System.String[] args) in <filename unknown>:line 0\n"}

We should log errors encountered while connecting to the mac somewhere and direct the user towards them.
