Screenshot of error dialog
A customer whose Windows PC was set to French could not install the Alpha update, whether updating from within Visual Studio or running the installer for Xamarin version 4.0.0.
The error message received was:
"An error occurred while applying security settings. Users is not a valid user or group..."
I found this issue came up with another product on MSDN's forums:
This seems to happen if the installer does not support the language, and if the PC was set up non-english, there will not be a "Users" group. The workaround is to manually add a Users group.
Screen shot of error dialog is attached. I could not reproduce this issue on my system, but it was set up in English initially so there is a Users group.
Also experienced that (Windows language - Polish)
"net localgroup /Add Users"
works as a workaround.
