Description Desroziers 2015-09-02 04:51:49 UTC
Consider the 3 following xsd :

base.xsd :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">

  <xs:complexType name="Base">
    <xs:sequence>
      <xs:element name="element" type="xs:string" />
    </xs:sequence>
    <xs:attribute name="attribute" type="xs:string" />
  </xs:complexType>

</xs:schema>

A.xsd :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">

  <xs:include schemaLocation="base.xsd" />

  <xs:complexType name="A">
    <xs:complexContent>
      <xs:extension base="Base">
        <xs:attribute name="other-attribute" type="xs:string" />
      </xs:extension>
    </xs:complexContent>
  </xs:complexType>

  <xs:element name="a" type="A" />

</xs:schema>

B.xsd:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">

  <xs:include schemaLocation="base.xsd" />

  <xs:complexType name="B">
  	<xs:complexContent>
      <xs:extension base="Base">
        <xs:attribute name="other-attribute" type="xs:string" />
      </xs:extension>
    </xs:complexContent>
  </xs:complexType>

  <xs:element name="b" type="B" />

</xs:schema>

When C# classes are generated with the command :

xsd A.xsd B.xsd /c

the XmlRootAttribute is not correct for B :

[System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute("a")]
public partial class A : Base { ... } => OK, serialization is possible

[System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute(Namespace="", IsNullable=true)]
public partial class B : Base { ... } => KO, serialization not possible

The properties generated by xsd.exe from MS are :

[System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute("a", Namespace="", IsNullable=true)]
public partial class A : Base { ... }

[System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute("b", Namespace="", IsNullable=true)]
public partial class B : Base { ... }
