Description ursling 2015-08-19 03:42:43 UTC
Hi

Arabic folder ar.lproj is not recognised for Arabic.

When I change my language to Arabic, such that the strings in ar.lproj should be used, then the arabic strings are not displayed.

As a test , if I replace the en.lrpoj\Localizable.strings with Arabic strings, then my app runs with Arabic strings, when the phone Language is English.

All the other culture string files are displayed correctly, when the phone Language is changed accordingly (including zh-Hans, zh-Hant, pt-BR and pt-PT, es,pl,ro,ru,da,fr etc etc)

I am using:

I have checked this issue and I am able to reproduce this issue.

To reproduce this issue run the attached project. It will not print the arabic value of key on console.

I have checked the same with "en-US" and "es-ES" and it is working fine. I am only getting this issue with Arabic culture.

Screencast:
With ar-AE culture : http://www.screencast.com/t/NP4wHdHKFII ( Not Working)
With en-US culture : http://www.screencast.com/t/jaykTUlwDWuo (Working)
With es-ES culture : http://www.screencast.com/t/4p3DLgpae4 (Working)

please let me know if I can provide more info to this issue.

Hi

Do you guys have any idea when this will be fixed? We would like to release a new version of our app. if this fix doesn't take too long the we will wait for it
Comment 4 Rolf Bjarne Kvinge [MSFT] 2015-09-08 05:20:19 UTC
This works fine for me.

Here I first run the test project from comment #2 with the simulator's language set to English (the default), and get an English string. Then I change the simulator's language to Arabic, run the test case again, and get the Arabic string.

Note that setting Thread.CurrentCulture.CurrentCulture will only affect resource lookup for .NET resource API (from the System.Resources namespace), not iOS API like NSBundle.MainBundle.LocalizedString. To make iOS API return localized strings, you have to change the language of the simulator/device like I show in the screen recording.

@Ursling, can you confirm if this is what you're doing, and if you still have problems, attach a project we can use to reproduce the issue?

Hi

Yes, obviously I am changing the culture of the actual device via settings. This is working for every other language we use such as French, German, Chinese, et etc ext

@Amanda, can you attach a project we can use to reproduce this then?
