Not sure what the label should say, but enabling the "New REference Counting" in MonoDevelop would be equivalent to doing:
This would enable the new reference counting work from Rodrigo. This is currently a preview of the technology.

How do you get this going?
Is it possible to guard this UI and only show it if MonoTouch 5.2 or better is on the system?
I made it so that it is only shown for MonoTouch versions >= 5.1.2
I put it in the iPhone Build Options in the Advanced tab under "Runtime Options" as a dependency on the SGen GC option.
The fix is in md-addins, so you'll need to update that and build it.
