RESOLVED FIXED

Description Ernstjan Freriks 2015-03-08 08:27:31 UTC
There is an discrepancy between System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer found in System.Web.Extensions.dll from the .NET 4.0/4.5 runtime under Windows and under Mono (Linux). The problem lies in the deserialisation of a string to a anonymous .NET object, when a double quote character '"' is started and closed on another line (after a line break). This works correctly in .NET, but not under Mono.

Example code:

        public JsonResult Test1()
        {
            string json_that_works = @"
                [
                  {
                  content:""      <div id=\""calendar\""><div>   ""
                  }
                ]
            ";

            JavaScriptSerializer serializer = new JavaScriptSerializer();
            return Json(serializer.DeserializeObject(json_that_works), JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
        }

        public JsonResult Test2()
        {
            string json_that_fails = @"
                [
                  {
                  content:""
<div id=\""calendar\""><div>
                ""
                  }
                ]
            ";

            JavaScriptSerializer serializer = new JavaScriptSerializer();
            return Json(serializer.DeserializeObject(json_that_fails), JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
        }

Method Test1 correctly works under Mono, method Test2 will fail with this error:

System.ArgumentException
Invalid object passed in, key value expected (76)

Description: HTTP 500.Error processing request.
Details: Non-web exception. Exception origin (name of application or object): System.Web.Extensions.

Fix created which passes repro test and looks to not introduce any new regressions. Review needed.
