RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 27764

Description James Clancey 2015-02-02 21:39:38 UTC
I am trying to debug via wifi so I can use external hardware. I leave the phone plugged in via usb while it launches and it sits indefinitely waiting for the debugger to connect.

I have verified this issue at my end and I am successfully able to reproduce this issue.

Below are the steps I followed:

1. Opened XS
2. Select then option >> Debug over wifi instead of USB via XS Preferences >> Project >> iOS
3. Re-start XS
4. Created a Classic API application/Unified API (Single View)
5. Start the wifi on the device as well as on the mac machine. (Same wifi connection)
6. Set a breakpoint at line number 17 of Main.cs
7. Debug the application.
8. Observe that it launches and it sits indefinitely waiting for the debugger to connect.

Note: When we uncheck the option "Debug iOS devices over wifi instead of USB", then it is working fine. This issue appears only when we check this option.

Below is the screencast for the same:
Classic API: http://www.screencast.com/t/ew6Vpr3sE
Unified API: http://www.screencast.com/t/dGdRhRffMJF

Comment 2 Jon Goldberger [MSFT] 2015-02-04 21:29:47 UTC
For me this only happens for a iOS Unified Project. A Classic API project connected to the debugger over WiFi without issue.
Comment 3 Jeffrey Stedfast 2015-02-09 11:35:14 UTC
Rolf: is this something to do with the MonoTouchDebugConfiguration.txt file or some such? Could you look over the msbuild logic to see if it looks right to you?
Comment 4 Rolf Bjarne Kvinge [MSFT] 2015-02-09 11:49:59 UTC
The MonoTouchDebugConfiguration.txt says "USB Debugging: 1" no matter how the preference is set in Xamarin Studio, so something is obviously wrong there. And looking at the MSBuild tasks it seems the 'DebuggerConnectOverUsb' property is always true.
