I can find no mention in Apple documentation of this method being deprecated.

Hello Michael,

The SetNeedsDisplay method is deprecated in 10.10 for NSControl and the classes that inherit from it.  You can see the deprecation in Apple's documentation at https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Cocoa/Reference/ApplicationKit/Classes/NSControl_Class/#//apple_ref/occ/instm/NSControl/setNeedsDisplay
