RESOLVED FIXED

Description Jon Goldberger [MSFT] 2014-12-03 20:54:48 UTC
## Description

Some project property settings are not being saved after being edited. So far I have only noted this for the SDK Version setting in the iOS Build page and the iPhone Main Interface setting on the iOS Application page.

## Steps to reproduce

1. Open Visual Studio 2013 and create a new iOS Project. I believe any will do. So far I tested with a Universal Single View Classic API template and an iPhone Single View Classic API template.
2. Change the configuration to Debug | iPhoneSimulator.
3. Open the Project Properties by double clicking on Properties ion the Solution Explorer.
4. On the iOS Build page, change the SDK version from 7.1 to 8.1.
5. On the iOS Application Page and delete the entry for the Main Interface in the iPhone/iPod Deployment Info section.
6. Save and Close the Project Properties.
7. Re-open the project properties.

Expected Result: Settings will be the same as those set above.

Actual Result: The SDK Version is still set to 7.1, but the iPhone Main interface _is_ now empty. But now try to change the Main Interface back...

8. Change the Main Interface back to the original story board that was listed before deleting it, MainStoryboard.storyboard or MainStoryboard_iPhone.storyboard depending on the project type you created.
9. Save, close and re-open the project properties.

Expected result: The Main Interface will now have the MainStoryboard setting in place.

Actual Result: The Main Interface entry remains empty.

## Note:

I initially started investigating this due to a report by a customer that the iPhone Main Interface setting was getting cleared when the project properties were edited but this did not occur for me, IOW if I did the following:

1. Create new project.
2. Open properties, edit, save, and close them.
3. Open properties.

After the above the Main Interface was still set. It wasn't until I unset the Main Interface that I started seeing a new setting not being saved. However the issue with changing the SDK version from 7.1 to 8.1 always occurred from the first attempt to change it.

Note (in light of private comment 3 above): The customer who originally reported this issue also believed that the Enable Generic Value Type Sharing was changed after an update, but I was not able to replicate this so did not report it. They were not sure if they had changed the setting accidentally, but since another customer experienced the same, I am now thinking that they did not accidentally change the setting but that it was changed without notice.
Comment 6 Mohit Kheterpal 2014-12-31 05:40:39 UTC
I have tried to reproduce this issue by following steps mention in bug description and observed that when I change SDK version to 8.1 & delete Main Interface value and close the project after saving it. When I reopen the project then SDK version changes back to 7.1 and Main.Interface value does not empty as shown in screencast : http://screencast.com/t/BzqRjhuoJz

As the value of SDK version is not saving, so I am marking this issue as confirmed.

I am not sure if this would be the same issue, but I also noted that setting some icons in the info.plist file are not being saved.

I have attached a test project, App1Universal, to demonstrate.

## Steps to reproduce

1. Open the attached App1Universal test project into VS 2013.
2. Open the info.plist file and add an icon for the "58x58 iPhone Spotlight @2x iOS 5.6 Settings @2x iOS 5-7" icon. It should be the only one without an icon set in the "Universal Icons->AppSpotlight and Settings Icons" section.
3. Close the info.plist file.
4. Launch the iOS Application
5. Stop the iOS application.
6. Open the info.plist file/

Expected result: The icon set above should still be set.

Actual result: No icon is set for the "58x58 iPhone Spotlight @2x iOS 5.6 Settings @2x iOS 5-7" icon.

Comment 11 Jon Goldberger [MSFT] 2015-01-12 16:46:43 UTC
For the issue in comment 7, manually editing the info.plist file and adding the <string> elements for the needed icons is a workaround. The relevant section in the info.plist file is:

><key>CFBundleIconFiles</key>
>	<array>
> <string>Icon-72@2x.png</string>
> <string>Icon-72.png</string>
> <string>Icon@2x.png</string>
> <string>Icon.png</string>
> <string>Icon-60@2x.png</string>
> <string>Icon-76.png</string>
> <string>Icon-76@2x.png</string>
> <string>Default.png</string>
> <string>Default@2x.png</string>
> <string>Default-568h@2x.png</string>
> <string>Icon-Small-50@2x.png</string>
> <string>Icon-Small-50.png</string>
> <string>Icon-Small-40.png</string>
> <string>Icon-Small-40@2x.png</string>
> <string>Icon-Small.png</string>
>	</array>

So adding new string elements to that array with the file names of the required icons should workaround this issue.
Comment 12 John Miller [MSFT] 2015-02-05 13:45:55 UTC
Also seeing this with Linker settings. They are not being saved.
Comment 13 NMackay 2015-02-16 14:02:14 UTC
Hi,

I can confirm the Linker setting is not been saved in the latest version in VS2013 (Update4). It always defaults back to "Link all assemblies" which strips out the SQLite assembly.
Comment 14 Brendan Zagaeski (Xamarin Team, assistant) 2015-02-24 18:50:54 UTC
The issue with the linker setting in particular is being tracked in its own bug report here: bug 26308.
Comment 15 Joaquin Jares 2015-10-20 09:44:08 UTC
Fixed the SDK/Main interface via: de1f3f25a030293911c174d17544cd4f8f498faf

Please recheck the others (logica, mostly) and open new bugs separate if they are still a repro.
