From this desk case:
Customer reported that Xamarin.Android generates temp files that are never deleted. Chrisntr noted that the issue is that while the Windows temp file is generally a good place to dump stuff, it isn't automatically cleaned out by Windows:
Hence, he asked that I file an enhancement request to improve how this is handled in Xamarin.Android.
Turns out this was just a path separator issue. The CreateTemporaryDirectory task was not including an ending path separator. So when the task appended __library_projects__ it ended up creating a whole new directory which was not cleaned up.
Fixed in monodroid/master/9146189d
