Screenshot of monodevelop menus.

The language settings in my copy of Monodevelop are screwy. The menus all appear to be in Japanese and German. "Missing symbol" characters also appear throughout the user interface. See the attached screen shots for examples.

I have tried uninstalling, clearing away any configuration files I could find and re-installing, but to no avail.

Michael,

Do you have any ideas on what could cause this?

Which version of Mono are you using?

What operating system version?

What is the locale of your operating system?
Comment 2 Malcolm Ryan 2011-12-11 23:29:27 UTC
OS X 10.6.8
Monodeveop 2.8.2
My language settings are all set for Australia.

Can you provide the output of "echo $LANG" from a terminal?
Do your MonoDevelop general preferences have a custom UI language set?

Comment 5 Malcolm Ryan 2012-01-12 18:28:23 UTC
The LANG variable is not set:

[malcolmr@gidget ~]$ echo $LANG

[malcolmr@gidget ~]$ echo "\"$LANG\""
""
[malcolmr@gidget ~]$

As for your second question, I do not know. The preferences window is unreadable (see attached screenshot).
Comment 6 Malcolm Ryan 2012-01-12 18:30:36 UTC
Is there any way to completely clear all preferences and start again? Uninstalling and reinstalling does not seem to achieve this.
Comment 7 Mikayla Hutchinson [MSFT] 2012-02-15 19:24:18 UTC
I don't really know what's going on here, my first assumption would eb that the system language is being detected wrong, but the fact that you're seeing a mixture of two languages might indicate that the translation catalogs are corrupted.

The second combobox from the top is the UI language override, could you try forcing it to English and restarting MD? I'd also recommend upgrading to Mono 2.10.9.
Comment 8 Mikayla Hutchinson [MSFT] 2013-05-15 17:33:51 UTC
Is this still a problem with Xamarin Studio?
