The .designer.cs generated files in VS include this comment:
// This file has been generated automatically by Xamarin Studio from the outlets and
// actions declared in your storyboard file.
// Manual changes to this file will not be maintained.
When used form VS we should replace the "by Xamarin Studio" above with "by Visual Studio".
Or we should use something neutral so it doesn't keep changing back and forth for people who use both IDEs.
Yes, that would be even better. If you take a look at generated files by other tools in VS they usually include:
1) No mention to VS
2) Version info of the tool used to generate the file
3) Big warning about the file being regenerated and your changes lost.
This was something we inherited for compatibility with the pre-existing xcode integration.
Jeff, if we change this for the designer will we also have to change it for the xcode integration generator?
To be clear, i mean the xcode integration in Xamarin Studio ;)
If you change it to something other than "... Xamarin Studio ...", then yes, you'll need to change the Xcode sync code that creates that comment as well.
Now that we have VS for Mac, perhaps we decide to just change this over to "Visual Studio" in both IDEs?
Thanks so much for taking the time to submit this report! I attempted to reproduce this issue based on the bug description with the latest Visual Studio 2017 Preview version 15.3, and I was unable to hit the problem. If this issue is still occurring for you, please reopen this report and attach a reproduction, ideally starting with a new template project and then adding just the code necessary to demonstrate the issue.
