I tried a variety of different combinations of SCNSceneLoadingOptions, but nothing has any effect. The scene always comes back as null. Xcode apparently uses a utility named scntool to process collada files in iOS. scntool is available at:
However attempting to run this from directly results in an error "scntool: warning: Could not load SceneKit.framework ((null))"
scntool converts the XML Collada file into a binary plist file whose contents are an internal format (not XML). This file will have the same name as the input Collada file (IOW, "Monkey.dae" XML Collada -> "Monkey.dae" proprietary bin plist). Attempts to load Collada XML result in the confusing iOS runtime message "Colllada files are not supported." (even though Collada files that have been processed by scntool *are* supported).
I've attempted to take a scntool-transformed file from an XCode build and use it and still have not been able to get the SCNScene to load.
IOW, the issue seems to involve both tooling and the APIs.
This is implemented in XS now (for iOS)
