Description Rolf Bjarne Kvinge [MSFT] 2014-05-06 05:18:36 UTC
Test case:
* https://github.com/rolfbjarne/TestApp
* Deploy to device and tap on "Native crash".

The crash report from Xcode shows this:

8 testapp 0x0003c138 TestApp.AppDelegate:NativeCrash (AppDelegate.cs:58)
9 testapp 0x0003cdc0 TestApp.AppDelegate:<FinishedLaunching>m__2 (AppDelegate.cs:129)
10 testapp 0x0018b778 MonoTouch.Dialog.StringElement:Selected (Elements.cs:1420)
11 testapp 0x00194998 MonoTouch.Dialog.DialogViewController:Selected (DialogViewController.cs:1088)

and none of the frames are correct. AppDelegate.cs:58 is an empty line, AppDelegate.cs:129 doesn't exist (the file doesn't have that many lines), Elements.cs:1420 should be :711, and DialogViewController.cs:1088 should be :546

All the file names seem correct though.

If I change to the Release configuration I get different (but still wrong) line numbers.

There's another example in bug #20405. It's likely unrelated (to the bug itself) but it seems the line numbers are wrong, e.g.

https://gist.github.com/GouriKumari/1eb0d7657f61afe07bca#file-gistfile1-txt-L47

Crash at line 110 of file StringAttributes.cs - but that file only has 77 lines.

27 monotouchtest 0x0017504c MonoTouchFixtures.Foundation.StringAttributesTests:SimpleValuesSet (StringAttributes.cs:110)
Comment 3 Lucas Romero 2015-01-02 08:57:07 UTC
We have also hit this. The line numbers in the crash reports we get from our deployed app all seem to be wrong.
Are there any plans to tackle this issue? This makes line numbers useless and debugging very hard!
Comment 4 Bernie Habermeier 2015-02-18 15:55:15 UTC
Yes, this needs fixing.

A thread related to this is here: https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/comment/102594#Comment_102594

Customer Support seems to think this is a "low priority bug'....
Comment 5 matt 2015-02-19 05:08:05 UTC
Be interested in seeing a fix for this.
Comment 8 Nate Cook 2015-02-26 11:32:48 UTC
Please fix this.
Comment 9 Sebastien Pouliot 2015-03-03 15:11:33 UTC
Closing based on comment #6 to have QA verify this for XI 8.10.
Comment 10 Bernie Habermeier 2015-03-03 15:14:32 UTC
where is comment #6? Comments 6 and 7 don't show up... maybe they are private? Just wondering.
Comment 11 Nate Cook 2015-03-03 15:29:34 UTC
I also do not see comment number 6 or 7.
Comment 12 Rolf Bjarne Kvinge [MSFT] 2015-03-03 17:44:16 UTC
Yes, comments 6 and 7 are private.
Comment 13 Nate Cook 2015-03-03 18:52:58 UTC
Since we are unable to see them, may we be informed of why the bug has been closed? Maybe a summary of their contents? What is XI 8.10?
Comment 14 Sebastien Pouliot 2015-03-03 21:04:15 UTC
Bugs are marked as RESOLVED/FIXED when engineering believe the issue to be fixed. Later QA verify the bugs with the milestone (8.10) and change the status to VERIFIED.

XI 8.10 is our next major version of Xamarin.iOS (after 8.6). Where 8.8 ? it's the version we plan to release when iOS 8.2 (watchkit) comes out but, beside the new API (and tooling), it will be nearly identical to the latest 8.6 service release (8.6.2 right now).
Comment 15 Parmendra Kumar 2015-05-07 09:10:49 UTC
I have checked this issue and observed that the line number is correct, after click on "Native crash".

Application output: https://gist.github.com/Parmendrak/2fafc61b86067bf9bb86

Hence closing this issue.
