Description GouriKumari 2014-03-31 19:15:44 UTC
Steps to Reproduce:

Open Build demo project in VS iOS designer
Build Piechart project

Expected Result:
Piechart component must immediately get rendered in Custom component section of Toolbox

Actual Result:
Piechart custom component does not get rendered consistently. User has to wait or restart VS to render components. Sometimes it fails to render at all.

XS 4.3.4 alpha immediately renders custom component on building custom library projects.

Test Env:
VS 2013
Xamarin.iOS 1.99.637
XS 4.3.4 alpha
Comment 1 Alan McGovern 2014-04-07 13:21:36 UTC
This is a bug in our NRefactory integration. It is not reloading all dependent assemblies correctly.
Comment 2 Alex Corrado [MSFT] 2014-04-07 15:01:57 UTC
This was due to the VisualStudioIdeServiceProvider implementation being incomplete and not raising the correct event when a build finishes or assembly references are added.

Fixed in XamarinVS master 4f9f9621215357e03a7cc320977a3b2517631cb5
Comment 3 Jon Goldberger [MSFT] 2014-09-02 17:35:06 UTC
It seems this may be happening again.

I am unable to get any custom components in the toolbox for the designer. Following the guides here:
http://developer.xamarin.com/guides/ios/user_interface/designer/ios_designable_controls_walkthrough/

and here:
http://developer.xamarin.com/guides/ios/user_interface/designer/ios_designable_controls_overview/

using Xamarin for VS version 3.3.47. I also tested on 3.0.547 and 3.1.205 with their respective versions on the build host. Same results.

ScratchTicket test project, http://developer.xamarin.com/guides/ios/user_interface/designer/ios_designable_controls_walkthrough/Resources/ScratchTicket.zip

Steps to reproduce:

1. Download and open the ScratchTicket sample app from the link above into Visual Studio 2013.
2. Open the project properties and add an Application name and ID if necessary.
3. Verify that ScratchTicketView class satisfies the requirements in they guide:
http://developer.xamarin.com/guides/ios/user_interface/designer/ios_designable_controls_overview/
which it should already.
4. Build the project for the iOS Simulator.
5. Open the MainStoryboard.storyboard file in iOS Designer
6. Open the Toolbox pane

Expected Results: I will see a Custom Components section in the Toolbox with a ScratchTicketView custom component
Actual Result: I do not see a Custom Components section or a ScratchTicketView custom control.

I have a customer using 3.7.248 and VS 2013 and not seeing their controls in the Toolbox.
Comment 9 Kent Green [MSFT] 2014-12-19 12:25:41 UTC
The customer in this desk case reported an extremely similar sounding bug:
https://xamarin.desk.com/agent/case/111652

However, it seems they hit this bug in Xamarin Studio 5.7, rather than Visual Studio. As such, I've filed the report for that issue here:

https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=25535
[iOS Designer] Custom control is not displaying in ToolBox in Xamarin Studio

And I'm adding it as a "See Also" link in case there is any possible relationship between the two bugs.

Comment 11 Corrado Cavalli 2014-12-29 10:00:28 UTC
I am having the same issue with Visual Studio 2013 update 4 with all latest Xamarin update installed (stable only)
Comment 12 Corrado Cavalli 2015-01-07 03:13:23 UTC
To reproduce it just create a single view iPhone app and add this code:

[Register("MyProgressView"), DesignTimeVisible(true)]
    public class MyProgress:UIProgressView
    {
        public MyProgress(IntPtr p)
            : base(p)
        {
        }

        public MyProgress()
        {

        }
    }

on Xamarin Studio the control is listed in toolbox, on Visual Studio it is not
available and this is really annoying since iOS relies heavily on subclassing.
Feel free to contact me if you need more info.

The full fix will ship with the builds with WatchKit support. I am unsure exactly what version number will be associated with those builds though.
