This error indicates that something has gone wrong with the pairing process. On your mac can you click the 'Unpair' button and then click 'Pair'. When connecting from your PC you should be prompted for that pin and when you use it the connection should work as expected.

If that does not work, can you tell me the version of the Xamarin.iOS Build Host that you have on the Mac (should be displayed at the bottom of the build host dialog) and also the version of the extension you have in Visual Studio. I believe this information can be found by clicking on Tools -> Extensions and Updates in Visual Studio.
Comment 2 Andy 2013-11-14 16:15:28 UTC
I think I fixed it that way. But it happened for no reason
Comment 3 Harold L Marzan 2013-11-18 12:29:12 UTC
Hi Alan, Andy,

The Xamarin.iOS Build Host version is 7.0.4.209, on Mac (iMac 7 mid 2007, Mac OS X 10.9, 4G, Intel Core Duo 2, XCode 5.0.2, iOS Simulator 7.0 (463.9.4.2) and the old XCode 3.2, mtouch 7.0.4.209)

On Windows (Intel i7 8 Cores, 32GB, Windows 7), VS 2012 Update 3, Xamarin.Android 4.10.01073, Xamarin.iOS 1.8.365.

I tried Upairing/Pairing and setting the newly generated code each time, but, the thing that always fails is the SdkStatus as bellow (All these tests were made without sniffing, normal, but the same results):

Comment 4 Harold L Marzan 2013-11-19 13:14:05 UTC
Hi Xamarin VS Team,

I started from zero (Open Project, Select Build Host, Pair, "Clean | Show iOS Simulator" ), but I noticed that every time before I do proceed with these steps (Open, Select, Pair), I always see the Warning "Server command 'SdkStatus': unable to retrieve status of the Xamarin.iOS SDK on the server"...

I tried these steps from both VS 2012, and exited, and from VS 2013, and exited (to avoid multiple instances error). But the result is the same. They behave the same in both versions.

The Pairing is very quick, but after that, everything stall and return errors

This is the log:

Same thing is happening to me. It was all working fine in the morning. I came back to my desk in the afternoon and it just stopped working. I didn't install or uninstall anything.

I restarted both Mac and PC and the problem persists.

@Harold - make sure to synchronize your Windows and Mac clocks. This is what causes the 429 error to occur. Consider synchronizing both from the same time server.

@Cassio - your problem should be resolved by unpairing and pairing the two machines again, as described in comment 1
Comment 7 Andy 2014-01-13 08:04:54 UTC
Should we close this ?
Comment 8 Marcel Bradea 2014-02-26 12:51:58 UTC
We are getting this exact thing happening as well. Tried re-pairing, restarting Visual Studio, restarting the iOS Build host. Nothing works.

We cannot get out of this state. Developing for both iPhone simulator and iPhone device are effectively hosed.

HELP!

Hi Marcel,
Please confirm your Mac and Windows machine have their clocks synced?

Dominique.

Yes they do. They're about 2-3 seconds apart.

We have a similar problem too.
Pairing works fine. We can see available devices the app can be run on in VS (so they are loaded from the host).

But when we try to clean or build solution, "Failed to clean build cache on the server" appears.

Build host logs:

[29-Mar-2014 13:35:07] Command [CleanupCache: CommmandUrl=CleanupCache] finished (10)

[29-Mar-2014 13:35:07] Error: Invalid authorization data
[29-Mar-2014 13:35:07] Error: Unauthorized request from 127.0.0.1

Configuration:

Xamarin.iOS for VS 1.10
VS 2013 Update 1
VS is run on Guest OS (VirtualBox)
Xamarin.iOS Build Host 7.2.0.2 (on Mac Host OS)

Same problem for me today too after an SDK synchronization and a Xamarin update on my Windows VM running Visual Studio.

My VS is paired OK to the Xamarin.iOS build host and shows connected devices but a build immediately fails.

Clocks are synchronised.

I'm having the exact same issue as of this morning, also after an SDK sync and Xamarin update.

Pairing is fine, connecting is fine.

Had this problem too but then realised I hadn't updated Xamarin Studio et al on PC machine, only on Mac build client. Grrr! :)

Now nice and smooth.
Comment 16 Joe Lopez 2014-09-05 11:09:40 UTC
Updated Xamarin Studio and then got a bit further, getting a "Failed to start application on target simulator" error. In the midst of troubleshooting that (and after reboots of the Mac and PC), I was prompted for yet another SDK sync. Now I'm back in business.

Many thanks. There's so much information packed into the original "Deploy failed" message.
