RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 441

Description Kostya Kurilov 2013-10-05 13:47:24 UTC
Global MacOS hotkeys like Cmd+Shift+/ (Help > Search) doesn't work in Xamarin studio. It also blocks another global hotkeys defined through Keyboard Shortcuts of System Preferences.

On MacOS these also don't work:

— Cmd+Shift+Down to "Select to the end of the document"
— Cmd+Shift+Up to "Select to the beginning of the document"
Comment 2 stepan.stulov 2014-06-03 11:59:45 UTC
On MacOS these hotkeys are also a mess:

— Cmd+Shift+Down to "Select to the end of the document" doesn't do anything
— Cmd+Shift+Up to "Select to the beginning of the document" doesn't do anything
— "Go to the beginning of the document" button works as "Home" on Windows, goes to the beginning of the line instead. Also doesn't work with Shift.
— "Go to the end of the document" buttons works as "End" on Windows, goes to the end of the line instead. Also doesn't work with Shift.
— "Page down" button doesn't work. Also doesn't work with Shift.
— "Page up" button doesn't work. Also doesn't work with Shift.

Also Xamarin's window overrides standard MacOS window behaviour such as close/minimise buttons. Therefore also doesn't work with third party extensions like BetterSnapTool.

Thanks for the report, however it's not quite the same issue as this. You've mentioned a number of separate issues which will need to be tracked separately and may require additional information to be reproduced and fixed.

Page Up, Page Down, Shift+PgUp, Shift+PgDown, Shift+Home, Shift+End all work fine for me. If they're not working for you, please file a separate bug for and include full version information from the About dialog, and details of what keyboard layout you're using.

The Windows-like behavior of home/end in our our text editor was a deliberate decision that I personally disagreed with (see bug 10286). If you'd like that to change, please file it UserVoice (http://xamarin.uservoice.com).

Cmd-shift-up and cmd-shift-down do appear to be missing from our text editor's keybindings. Please file a bug against the text editor for that so we can add the bindings.

Compatibility with third party window management tools should have been fixed by bug 10256. if it's not working for you, please file a separate bug for that and include full version information, and details about which commands exactly are failing to work.

Thanks!

The Help|Search issue (Cmd-Shift-/) has been fixed in mono/bockbuild.

https://github.com/mono/bockbuild/blob/master/packages/patches/gtk/0072-let-global-keyboard-shortcuts-pass-through.patch

This probably fixes other global shortcuts that were not making their way up to the system before as well, but maybe we need to test those individually to be sure. I just tested the Help|Search one.

I need to find out what the status of this patch is for getting merged into Mono. I'll do that in the morning.

Nevermind, looks like it's already merged into the mono-4.0.0 branch.

As Michael said, if any of the other things mentioned here are still issues then please file them separately. I'm closing this one as duplicate of bug #441.
