This code:

var client = new WebClient ();
var req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create ("http://wrench.mono-project.com/Wrench/WebServices/WebServices.asmx?wsdl");
var webStream = req.GetResponse ();
var doc = new XmlDocument ();
doc.Load (webStream.GetResponseStream ());
Console.WriteLine ("Success");

ends up creating ~580 threads (in the simulator).

Xamarin Studio lists them all...

Fixed a couple of days ago.
