Description James Clancey 2013-08-22 20:35:41 UTC
A lot of times, I am told by MTVS that there is no device attached. There is a device attached and I just have to click the refresh thing before it works. Can it auto check for me before complaining?
Comment 1 Dominique Louis 2013-09-03 08:30:46 UTC
James, there should be a timer that requests device info from the server every few seconds. It will say "No Devices" if the connection to the server has dropped. Click refresh will typically re-establish a server connection, which then give use the attached device data. We have since implemented a cached list of devices, for when the server connection drops.

Something is obviously broken. I left my machines paired and on all night without my phone connected. I woke up this morning to VS still seeing my iPhone connected.

Today I check this issue with MTVS 1.6.71.

I tried to connect and disconnect the device on the build server and it takes about 1 min before the devices connection information is refreshed.

@Dominique, is that a expected behavior?
Comment 4 Dominique Louis 2013-10-09 14:34:08 UTC
It shouldn't take a minute. The list is usually refreshed within seconds.
Comment 5 dean.ellis 2013-10-09 14:50:39 UTC
Dom, the device cache might be getting in the way here as it only refreshes every minute. I don't think we really need it now. I'll test it and find out.
Comment 6 dean.ellis 2013-10-10 09:19:42 UTC
The device cache has been removed, users will only have to wait a max of 5 seconds.

Fixed in XamarinVS/master/afcb510908

Today we have checked this issue with following builds :

VS 2013
MTVS 1.8.360

Now when we plugh or unplugh device from server then VS reflects it within 2 or 3 seconds.

Hence closing this issue.
