RESOLVED INVALID

Description Mohit Kheterpal 2013-07-22 15:47:19 UTC
Unable to deploy android application on release mode in windows on device as well as on emulator, application gets crashes as soon as launch on device or emulator. However its working fine with X.S on mac and windows.

We have tested with Button sample, Rotation Demo and JetBoy. But we are successfully able to deploy Android Templates.

Xamarin.Android log: https://gist.github.com/atin360/24e265ce110f17c11c67
Debug output: https://gist.github.com/atin360/eb9f1c023ea20059c289

Environment details:
All windows
VS 2010/2012
MFA 4.8.0.13

Device info:
Samsung s4 4.2.2
Samsung s2 2.3.3

Regression Status: This issue also exists with stable MFA 4.6.8-7

peterc: i also don't understand bug #13385; mohit claims to have both Xamarin.Android log and Debug output, but i see no logcat
16:41 jonp
peterc: and the "Xamarin.Android log" and "Debug output" both look like monodroid.log to me
peterc
yeah, those logs are the same I think
peterc
and there is no logcat as far as I can tell
jonp
kinda hard to say what's going on there
peterc
but attempting to repro I hit the same debug output they posted
peterc
(when just clicking start in release configuration, rather than specifying 'start without debugging')
jonp
and if you hit Start Without Debugging, does it still crash?
peterc
so I believe it's invalid, I'll update it
peterc
no it works as intended
jonp
k. sounds good then

peterc
it'd be a nice enhancement to have the start button default to Start Without Debugging in release config though
peterc
if that's possible

Mohit, please attempt to deploy these samples by going up to the Debug tab, and selecting "Start Without Debugging", as seen in the following screencast:
http://screencast.com/t/WPtn0Ayo3JtR

Selecting "Start Without Debugging" should allow the applications to deploy successfully in Release mode.

Unfortunately, simply pressing the "Start" button when the configuration is set to release will still attempt to "Start Debugging". I have filed a potential enhancement for this behavior, but in the mean time you will need to explicitly select "Start Without Debugging" from the DEBUG drop-down menu when attempting to deploy in release mode from Visual Studio.

Please reopen this bug if the above steps do not resolve this issue.
