RESOLVED FIXED

Description Jeff Simon 2013-05-24 22:41:34 UTC
I'm using the Beta channel Xamarin Studio on Mac; iPhone 4 works fine, but attempts to run on iPhone 3GS fail before the debugger can attach. The 3GS was working without issue a few days ago; I believe I accepted an update in Xamarin Studio, so is it possible this is due to the latest update for the Beta channel?

I have a more detailed writeup including repro steps and XCode console/crash dump info here:
http://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/4472/beta-channel-broken-for-3gs#latest

Can you add the information to the bug report (so all data is available in a single place) ?

Also can you tell us which iOS version the 3GS is running ? (the iPhone4 too?)

Finally did you update Xamarin Studio or Xamarin.iOS (or both) ? If so tell us which version you're now running and (if you remember) which version you were using previously (when it was working). Thanks!

Sure thing;

> Can you add the information to the bug report (so all data is available in a
single place)?

I've pasted this below.

> Also can you tell us which iOS version the 3GS is running ? (the iPhone4 too?)

4S: 6.1.3
3GS: 4.3.3

> Finally did you update Xamarin Studio or Xamarin.iOS (or both)?

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure - I just blithely accepted whatever the automatic Xamarin updater told me was available.

> If so tell us which version you're now running and (if you remember) which version you were using previously (when it was working). Thanks!

I don't know what the previous version was, but am fairly certain I only accepted one update and it was in the last week.

Running now:
* Xamarin Studio: 4.0.8
* Xamarin.iOS: 6.3.5.43 (Business Edition)

I've also pasted below the full version dump from About Xamarin Studio in case others are useful (xcode etc)

Please let me know if I can provide any other information, and thanks as always for a great product.

Cheers,
Jeff

== REPRO STEPS ==
=================

1. Install the stable channel build. Create any new iOS solution (e.g. C# | iOS | Universal | OpenGL Application). Run it on a 3GS or 4S - works fine.

2. Now change to the beta channel. Clean/Rebuild (or create new solution). Run it on a 4S - works. Run it on a 3GS - crashes before it can get to the debugger.

I suspect this is the relevant part from the xcode console:

$ git blame mono/utils/mono-mutex.c | grep pthread_mutexattr_setpolicy_np
0542f8af mono/utils/mono-mutex.c    (Rodrigo Kumpera         2013-04-26 19:41:40 -0400 137) 	pthread_mutexattr_setpolicy_np (&attr, _PTHREAD_MUTEX_POLICY_FIRSTFIT);

Rodrigo, I think this symbol is not available in older versions of iOS.

Working on it.
Comment 5 Rodrigo Kumpera 2013-05-28 14:25:47 UTC
Fixed on master and it will be part of the next beta.
