Description Allie Miller 2013-05-21 11:44:46 UTC
If I’m not executing a task, Visual Studio 2012 crashes.

There is an unhandled exception when Visual Studio 2012 crashes.
Attached is the image of VS crashing.

Also attached is a sample project that reproduces the issue.
When executing:

decimal var = Convert.ToDecimal("hello");

debugging stops and when you click on continuous visual studio crash.

When an exception occurs in an external dll debugging you can’t stop and the crash occurs.

Comment 4 Saurabh 2013-07-09 08:51:30 UTC
Today, we have tried this issue with latest build:

Windows 8
VS 2012
X.Android 4.7.11042

Here is what I tried, I have added 'decimal var = Convert.ToDecimal("hello");' code in Activity1.cs file and run the application. Now, it throws unhandled exception and on clicking continue button, VS stops running the application but VS does not crash.

Xamarin Android output: https://gist.github.com/atin360/23f5126fa96daae199e0

Please review the steps that I performed and let me know if I am heading into right direction or not. If something else needs to be checked here, then please let me know regarding the same, so that I can check this issue accordingly.

As per comment 4 changing its status to confirmed.
Comment 6 Saurabh 2013-07-12 11:35:08 UTC
Regression Status: I am getting same behavior as mentioned in comment4 with stable X.Android 4.6.8.7-1.

Windows 8
VS 2012
X.Android 4.6.8.7-1

Here is what I tried, I have added 'decimal var = Convert.ToDecimal("hello");'
code in Activity1.cs file and run the application. Now, it throws unhandled
exception and on clicking continue button, VS stops running the application but
VS does not crash.

This bug was targeted for a past milestone, moving to the next active non-hotfix milestone.
Comment 8 PJ 2014-04-29 10:51:17 UTC
The bug here was not reproduced by Saurabh in comment 4 or comment 6. Allie reports that Visual Studio is crashing in the description, but Saurabh says:

In comment 4:
> VS stops running the application but VS does not crash.

and comment 6:
> VS stops running the application but VS does not crash.

So the original crashing issue was not reproduced. It's been a year since we've had subsequent reports. I'm going to set this one to NEEDINFO and remove the target milestone.

If we have another report of this issue, we need to get the Trace logs.

I have checked this issue with the latest stable build XVS 3.11.666 using VS 2012 and VS 2013 I observed that I am not able to reproduce this issue. I observed that on clicking continue button, it throws unhandled exception and VS stops running the application but VS does not crash.
