RESOLVED NOT_ON_ROADMAP

Description Patrick Ulbrich 2011-10-03 07:52:00 UTC
In Fedora both, gmcs and dmcs are available, whereas in Debian/Ubuntu mono-csc should be used (defaults to dmcs, gmcs is not installed by default). Thus, makefiles have to be patched in order to work in different distros. Ideally, the compiler can be passed to configure (e.g. /configure CSC=mono-csc).
Comment 1 Mikayla Hutchinson [MSFT] 2011-10-03 07:59:16 UTC
That's not good, it would be bad to try to invoke gmcs and to get dmcs.

Anyway, this problem would be better resolved by using with the new "mcs" compiler in Mono 2.10 that can target all frameworks.
Comment 2 Marek Safar 2011-11-15 11:34:00 UTC
The upcoming Mono 2.12 will have mcs compiler only which should be called first
Comment 3 Marius Ungureanu 2013-11-23 10:27:39 UTC
Can this be closed?

We now use xbuild, which allows overriding csc. That said, configure still checks for gmcs, which is wrong.
