Description Andres G. Aragoneses 2013-03-13 17:02:18 UTC
I've heard that MonoDevelop should compile with mono < 3.0 (and if it wouldn't, then the configure script should warn about it), however I just tried this and got this error:

SoftDebuggerSession.cs(59,36): error CS0433: The imported type `Mono.CompilerServices.SymbolWriter.MonoSymbolFile' is defined multiple times

Running with stock mono of Ubuntu 12.10:
$ mono --version
Mono JIT compiler version 2.10.8.1 (Debian 2.10.8.1-5ubuntu1)

	TLS: __thread
	SIGSEGV: altstack
	Notifications: epoll
	Architecture: amd64
	Disabled: none
	Misc: softdebug
	LLVM: supported, not enabled.
GC: Included Boehm (with typed GC and Parallel Mark)

And I think the relevant part is:

Comment 5 Mikayla Hutchinson [MSFT] 2013-03-13 19:44:29 UTC
2.108 is too old, you need 2.10.9.
Comment 6 Andres G. Aragoneses 2013-03-13 19:56:42 UTC
If I need 2.10.9, configure script should complain.

Anyway, Jeff merged my PR.
Comment 7 Andres G. Aragoneses 2013-03-13 20:31:53 UTC
Michael, do you mind pasting the .NET build error here?
Comment 8 Mikayla Hutchinson [MSFT] 2013-03-13 21:36:35 UTC
Jeff was wrong to merge the PR, it broke the build on .NET.

SoftDebuggerSession.cs(42,12): error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'CompilerServices' does not exist in the namespace 'Mono' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

This is a Mono 2.10.8 bug, you need to upgrade to 2.10.9.
Comment 9 Andres G. Aragoneses 2013-03-13 22:13:16 UTC
Ok sorry about that, I've fixed the configure then, in this PR:
