RESOLVED FIXED

Description Rolf Bjarne Kvinge [MSFT] 2013-03-11 06:11:29 UTC
Currently debug (dSYM) information is only created for debug builds (i.e. for line numbers to show up in crash reports the user has to enable "Emit debugging information" in the project's compiler options *and* enable "Enable debugging" in the project's iOS build options).

We should support emitting debug information even when "Enable debugging" is not selected (this is to get line numbers in crash reports for release builds).

Zoltan, any idea how much time this would take to implement?
Comment 2 Zoltan Varga 2013-03-11 08:42:45 UTC
If you pass --debug, and don't pass --aot=nodebug to the AOT compiler, it will generate dwarf debug info
into the AOT images, then runs dsymutil to generate a .dSYM directory. So I'm not sure what needs to be implemented here.
Comment 3 Rolf Bjarne Kvinge [MSFT] 2013-03-11 09:40:37 UTC
Won't --debug generate different (slower/more memory usage) code?
Comment 4 Zoltan Varga 2013-03-11 09:55:54 UTC
mono --debug just causes the runtime to load the .mdb files and the jit to generate line number tables.
These tables take up some space in the AOT image, but the same code is generated.

--aot=soft-debug causes code to be generated which works with sdb. This is the slower/bigger code.

Your change seems to be working, thanks!
Comment 6 Kirk Klobe 2013-03-19 14:37:28 UTC
So, how can I get this working from XS 4.0.2 with x.iOS 6.2.1.199? I've been fiddling with project and compiler settings and can't seem to get any line number magic on a testflight build compiled in release mode.

Thanks!

@Kirk: this hasn't been released yet. It will be included in the 6.4 release (sorry but we don't have a release date yet).
