Find attached stack trace. This error is throw when one tries to open any file and also when accessing 'Code Templates' or 'Syntax Highlighting' in Preferences.

How did you start monodevelop ? I assume with 'mono MonoDevelop.exe' ? 

Try it with 'make run'.

btw. and get sure that you've a recent mono (I assume you've a parallel mono install). 

2.10.8.1 which is delivered with ubuntu will not work (the json reader has a bug that's causing this)

Yes, I'm on Ubuntu using packaged mono. Thanks for the info Mike :-)
